Besides the large city of Rochester there is a small town called Rochester NY in Ulster county in New York State. The town of Rochester NY Ulster County was named in honor of the Earl of Rochester. Rochester was given the status of a town in Ulster County New York State 1877. The town grew around a small settlement of settlers from Holland. The Dutch named the town Mombaccus and this name was later changed to Rochester.



The Dutch settlement dates back to1700. The first Reformed Dutch Church was built by the early settlers. Friends of Historic Rochester is a not for profit society which has the town folk of Rochester as its members who pay a subscription and help preserve the history of the town. The history of Rochester NY Ulster county is preserved in its museum and library. Rochester NY Ulster county is a small town with a significant place in early American history.
